National Library Week 2026

Avoca Fire & Rescue offers the community to show their national pride with a subscription to our You're A Grand Old Flag Program. For just $50 a year, they'll place a beautiful American flag in your front yard on six national holidays:
• Memorial Day
• Flag Day
• Independence Day
• Labor Day
• Patriot Day
• Veterans Day

How it Works
• A 3’x5’ nylon American flag on a 10’ pole will be placed in your yard.
• Flags are set out at dawn and retrieved at dusk.
• On three-day holiday weekends, flags may remain up all weekend.
• A small, flush-mounted ground receptacle will be installed near your curb — safe for mowing and out of the way year-round.

Learn more or register for the program for the 2026 year at cityofavoca.com/o/coa/page/avoca-old-flag-program

Avoca's Community Relations Coordinator, Cydney Shriver, was honored to be selected as the Iowa Foundation for Parks and Recreation's 2026 Spring Conference Trueblood Scholarship Recipient, which gave her the opportunity to participate in four days of networking, educational sessions, and celebrations with parks and recreation professionals from across the state at the Iowa Parks and Recreation Association (IPRA) Spring Conference in Sioux City the week of March 23rd.

"As someone newer to the parks and recreation industry, this conference provided valuable insight, inspiration, and encouragement. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from so many passionate professionals and bring back new ideas that can continue to benefit our community," said Cydney. "Thank you to the Iowa Foundation for Parks & Recreation and IPRA for this opportunity and to everyone who made the conference such a memorable experience."

Cydney is excited to move forward with bringing new ideas and much-needed updates to our parks, recreational facilities, and community spaces.

What sad weather for the first day of the 2026 golf season. ⛈️

Important Updates:
⛳ The Clubhouse is open, but hours may fluctuate weather depending
⛳ Be sure to watch socials for any closures due course conditions
The Flour Mill is not open for food/dining, more information to come

Additionally, we ran out of membership cards (what a great problem to have!) so there is a slight delay on membership and reciprocal cards. I will update once those have been officially dropped off at the Clubhouse.

Please contact City Hall at 712-343-2424 with any questions.
